My cause for concern

Úryvek

"My cause for concern is Facebook addiction.
Facebook became very famous in our country these days, and I want to speak about addiction to it.
Facebook is a good way to find old friends, schedule events, play games and even send virtual gifts. But if you more online on Facebook then real life, it might be time to reassess. Many people are now seeing Facebook more as an addiction than a networking tool, and psychologists are starting to agree.
Five years ago nobody knew about Facebook , but today actually FB have more than 400 million active users all over the world and 50% of active users who log on to Facebook in any given day. More than 35 million users update their status each day. More than 60 million status updates posted each day. More than 3 billion photos uploaded to the site each month. More than 5 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.) shared each week. More than 3.5 million events created each month. More than 3 million active pages on Facebook. More than 1.5 million local businesses have active pages on Facebook. More than 20 million people become fans of pages each day and pages have created more than 5.3 billion fans.
Frequent Facebook visits actually cause something psychologists refer to as intermittent reinforcement.
Notifications, messages and invites reward you with an unpredictable high, much like gambling. That anticipation can get dangerously addictive.
Rob Bedi, a registered psychologist and assistant professor at the University of Victoria, said that Internet addictions are common on university campuses, often helped by free Internet access, web-based assignments and unstructured blocks of time.
Bedi said there is a difference between procrastination and addiction. If you’re losing assignment time to Facebook, though, that’s a problem.
The key may be as simple as diagnosing your triggers and changing your habits.
“Find out what’s missing from your life,” said Bedi. “Whether it’s having too much free time, not knowing anyone or just escaping, think about what made you resort to [Facebook], and what you could be doing instead.”
If you are not quite ready for that, you could join one of the 155 Facebook Addicts Anonymous groups on Facebook itself – but that might defeat the purpose.
Finally, I would like to say this is the huge problem of our modern society. It is difficult to find reasons why we prefer online on FB reading statuses, comments etc. Why we meet less our friends.
Are there any questions?"
