The fall of the house of Usher :
- short story
- published in 1839
- action : The story tells about the old ugly house which belongs to Usher’s family. People from the nearest neightbourhood are afraid of this house. One day, a young man came to the house to visit his friend from his childhood – Roderic Usher who had a mental disorder. He had also a twin-sister but she was very sick. As the story unfolds, everything is more and more mysterious und ghostly. In a few days Roderic’s sister died and Roderic decided to put her dead body into the old tomb which was in the house’s cellar. One night, they couldn’t sleep because they still could hear some ghostly sounds. They were very frightened and thought that the sounds could be caused by Roderic’s sister, who wanted to get out from the tomb. Suddenly Roderic’s sister in bloody dress came into the room and fell down on her brother. He died of an enormous panic immediately. The friend ran away from the house very quickly. Outside, he looked back... the house was breaking down. And it was the end of the house of Usher and its last inhabitants."
