"Crime and Punishment
Crime is an action which is against the law or is an example of bad or unacceptable behaviour. Criminal is a person who commits a crime. Criminology is a science which study criminal behaviour. We can divide crimes into 3 groups. The first ones are offences against people which usually bring severe punishments. (e.g. murder, sexual attacks). The second ones are offences against property which usually bring lighter punishment (e.g arson, vandalism, forgery). And the last ones are offences against public order or public morality which generally bring lighter penalties than offences against people and property (e.g. prostitution, public drunkeness).
Examples of crimes and offences
• Drug trafficking is trading in illegal drugs.
• Vandalism(person who commits vandalism is called vandal) is deliberately damaging public buildings or property, usually just for fun.
• Hit and run is a car accident in which the guilty driver doesn‘t stop to help.
• Perjury is lying in court while giving evidence, when you have promised to tell the truth. Treason (person who commits treason is called traitor) is betraying of your own country by helping its enemies.
• Arson(the villain is called arsonist) is crime of deliberately setting fire to a building."
