Elections are for many of us one of the things, that is completely different opinions. For the first part of our society, elections are social events, that is very important and for conservatives it is even „holiday of democracy“, but for the second part of our society, elections are only routine or harassment in some cases. Last election in the Czech republic show, that the second part of people dominate (minority of Citizen went to elect). The questions are: „Are the elections with minority participation really democratic?“, „Is the government legitimate?“ when the majority of our society not to vote.
Electoral participation is voluntary. We have democratic state and elect/vote is only right, not obligation. It is free desicion of ever of us, but for someone it may be protest against the system not to vote. It may be one only kind of vote. If I not to recognize a state government or if I not to recognize even system of state, it is my alone kind, how I demonstrate my own opinion. It is a attitude of big liberal people, anarchists and may be communists.
Opposite opinion have a conservatives people. For this people are elections event, how represent their own attitude and demonstrate a thein own relationship with state, with government and realtionship to theirself. „Not to vote“ is abnegation of own right. For the ortodox (paleo) conservatives it is spitting in the face of democracy and ignorant decision, disunderstanding of the basic compounds of democratic system.
In my opinion, the true is the somewhere in the middle. Tru eis, that electoral participation is voluntary and we cannot do obligation from electoral participation throught appeal to the responsibility. In my opinion it is nondemocratic and authoritarian in the part. On the other side, we have a opportunity protest against the systém or government. We can throw into the elect box empty list. When the majority of our society share this opinion and into the elect box throw empty list, election are invalid. These people have an instrument to protest.
Answer to the first question is in my opinion: Yes, because electoral participation is voluntary. For the second question: Yes, because the elections with minority participation is really democratic."
