"AUSTRALIA
Located:
Australia is a continent in the southern hemisphere, it means that Australians has summer when we have winter. It is sixth biggest country in the world and also smallest continent in the world. It is situated between the Indian and the Southern Pacific ocean. It has no land border. Australia is small continent, but it is also the largest island in the world. This huge country/Australia is far from everything. That is the reason why was Australia discovered as late as 20th century 1770 by the English Captain James Cook. Australia is also called “Down Under”. Other name is “OZ”. –other names for Australia..
There are about 20 million people. They call Aussie or Ozzie. The main and official language is English.
Geography national features:
Along the eastern coast are the Australian Alps. Here is the highest mountain – Snowy Mountains.( Mont Kosciuszko) The longest river is the Murray Rivers. There are three big lakes here: Lake Eyre, Lake Torrens and Lake Gairdner. The most famous landform is Uluru(also known as Ayers Rock) which is in the centre of country. Uluru we can find in the northern Territory. It is a huge red rock formation 350 m high. It is very popular with tourists because it’s beautiful colours. We can walk around it, travel on camel , at the night we can enjoy stargazing or we can have a romantic dinner there. Climbing into it will be banned, because it is sacred place of Aboriginal people. Great Barrier reef is part of UNESCO heritage, because of fauna and flora)It is the largest coral in the world (over 2.300 km long). Another heritage is Shark bay. Very popular are also Devil’s Marbles (ďáblovy kuličky), which are mysterious, large, red rock in the Australia Outback. It is located in the Northern Territory. Josephine Falls is popular place for swimming in the rainforest. We can find this place in the northern part of Queensland. The highest Australian mountain is Mount Kuzsciuszko, where is ski areal and there are glacial valley. Godwana rainforests are the most extensive area of subtropical rainforest in the world. It is also world UNESCO heritage. We can find in this area many national parks. Kakadu National park is east of Darwin. This park is also UNESCO heritages. There are Aboriginal rock painting, crocodile, kakadu and water birds. The twelve apostles is an collection of limestone stacks of the shore of the Campbell national park. The pinnacles are limestone (vápencové struktury) formation on the desert."
