Úryvek

"The Czech Republic is a small landlocked country in Central Europe. The country borders Poland in the north, Austria in the south, Germany in the west and Slovakia in the east. The country consists of two main regions: Bohemia - the western half and Moravia - with part of Silesia in the east. The country is divided in 14 regions.

The country has about 10,3 million inhabitants. Our currency is Czech crown.

Our state has a varied landscape. Bohemia is surrounded by the Šumava Mountains, the Czech Forest, the Eagle Mountains (Orlické hory), the Jizerské Mountains etc. On the West of Moravia there is the Bohemia – Moravian Highland and on the North there are the Jeseníky and Beskydy. The highest mountain lies in the Giant Mountains and its name is Snowdon (Sněžka). It is 1602 m high.
There are some rivers. The well-known river is the Elbe, which is flowing from Eastern Bohemia through Germany to the North Sea. Then other rivers are e. g. the Vltava, the Dunaj, the Sázava, the Morava.

Czech weather is a continental type of climate. Our republic lies in temperate zone, we have 4 seasons of years. The warmest places are in southern Moravia and the coldest are in the Giant Mountains.

Its most important industries are steel, machinery, textiles, and food processing....

Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and lies in the middle of Bohemia on the Vltava River. Its population is about 1,2 million‚ it is the biggest and oldest city in our Republic.
The historical centre of Prague is made up of the Old Town, Josefov, the Lesser Quarter, Hradčany, the New Town and Vyšehrad.

The 14th century was a very important period in Prague‘s history because the town became the seat of Charles IV (the fourth). Charles IV founded Charles University in 1348 and the New Town. He also let built the Charles Bridge in 1357. It is the second oldest bridge in Central Europe.
After second world democracy ended, in our republic was established communist system. In 1968 soviet army occupied our state to year 1989, when whole nation revolted against political system and democratic government was restored. In 1993 Czechoslovakia separated in two independent and democratic states Czech Republic and Slovak Republic."
