"I live in the Czech Republic and my home town is called Přerov. The city of Přerov is situated on the Bečva River. Its geographical location makes it intersection of ways and heart of Moravia. The derivation of its name is explained by Jan Blahoslav. It is of old-slavonic origin and means grave or first grave.

HISTORY
This locality was already settled in the prehistoric age which is witnessed by the world-known archaeological site at Přerov-Předmostí. The oldest written mention of Přerov dates back to 1141. In 1256 it was raised to the status of a royal town under Přemysl Otakar II. Later, Přerov became a residence of nobility for a long time (Pernstein and Žerotín)

Nowadays the surface of Přerov region is 884 km2 and its population is about 47 000.
PLACES OF INTERES

Přerov is hospitable place for visitors. What is worth seeing are town protected area as well as valuable exhibits from archeological findings, minerals and entomological collections and also remake of old school classes, all of which is to be found in The Comenius Museum situated in the building of the chateau. The chateau tower offers a view of the town and its surroundings, the town park Michalov and flood-plain forest reservation Žebračka.

Přerov is deservedly called a town of Blahoslav and Comenius, the two greatest personalities of the Unity of Brethren. The contemporary Přerov attracts visitors by its preserved urban conservation zone with burgher houses from the 15th and 16th centuries and rest of medieval town walls.
MUNICIPLE HOUSE
There is the Municiple House in the town centre.It is situated in the TGM Square in Přerov. It is a significant building from 1897.Its foundation stone was laid on May Day in 1896 and in December of 1897, it was put into service. It is a significant architectural building in Neo-Renaissance style with a rich stucco decoration and with Art Nouveau elements. A cultural and social centre of Přerov is here now. Various theatre performances, concerts, social events and ballroom dances are held in its representative halls all year round. Famous Jazz Festival with international participation which takes place in autumn of every year and a tradition dating back to 1966 is the most significant musical event."
