"New York is the most populous city in the United States. There live more than 8 million people. It is located on the east coast of the USA. It is a centre of fashion and finances and its nickname is Big Apple. Many people also call it „The city that never sleeps“.

History
The original inhabitants of this area were the Indians. Later, the Dutch bought Manhattan from them and they called it New Amsterdam. After a few years, the English conquered the city and renamed it to New York.

The city plan
NY consists of five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Manhattan is an island, which is flanked by two rivers - the Hudson and the East River. It can be reached by some bridges. Manhattan´s city plan is simple - there are avenues and streets. Avenues run from the north to south and streets run from the west to the east. There is only one avenue, which runs in a curving way - it is called Broadway. The 6th avenue divides Manhattan on the poorer west side and richer east side.

NY is a centre of fashion, arts, business, finances and entertainment. There are many places of interest.

The Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is situated on the Island of liberty. It was gift from French to 100th anniversary of American independence (4th July 1776) and it symbolize freedom. In one hand, she holds the torch of freedom and in the other hand the Declaration of Independence."
