„GEORAPHY
Rocky Mountains (Rockies) are in Western North America. There are many national parks (Yellowstone). They are the same age as the Alps in Europe. Coastal plain is on the south-eastern of America. Appalachian Mountains are in the east and they are 3000 km long. Central Plains are between Rocky Mountains and river Mississippi. They are growing grain there.
The highest peak is Mount McKinley (Alaska). It is 6194 meters above sea level.
The lowest point is Death Valley in California. It is 86 below sea level.
The largest rivers are Mississippi - Missouri with 6200 km long.
The borders are Mexico, Canada, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Russia.
Great Lakes Region includes lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario. It has 250 000 km2. Only Lake Michigan belongs all to USA. Superior is the largest lake of them and the second largest lake in the World. Between Erie and Ontario are all over the World known Niagara Falls.

NATIONAL PARKS
Yellowstone National Park is the oldest park in the world. You can see there Old Faithful Geyser etc. Yosemite National Park has got many visitors. You can see there waterfalls and wild animals. Grand Canyon National Park has 49 000 km2 and it is in UNESCO. Redwood National Park is called from red wood. This tree is the tallest in the world. The park is along the coast of northern California.

PEOPLE
The USA has 293 million people. There are national groups: Caucasian (white), African America, Hispanic, Asia, Native American.

HISTORY
Vikings discovered the American continent first around the year 1000. The original people in America were Natives (Indians). The first settlers lived in what is now the state of Virginia and built the first English town, James town. In 1620 the ship named Mayflower brought 102 English men, women and children to the north-east coast where they founded the colony called Plymouth. They were members of a religion sect called Pilgrim Fathers, but in winter about one half of them died. The next year in October 1621 they celebrated good harvest and the day of celebrations they called Thanksgiving Day. In 1773 a group of patriots, dressed as Indians, threw the cargo of British tea into the Boston Harbour. This event is known as Boston Tea Party. The Continental Congress began to work as a national government and on July 4th, 1776 thy agreed on the Declaration of Independence written mainly by Thomas Jefferson. Civil War started in 1861 after Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.”
