"Australia is the smallest continent and it´s the biggest island. Number of population is 24 mil. The area is 9 mil. sq km. The official title is The Commonwealth of Australia. It´s located in south-east Asia.
The capital city is Canberra but the biggest known is Sydney. The head is British Queen and the head of government is the prime minister. This country is divided into 6 states and 2 territories. The Australian flag consists of a small Union Jack in the left corner on a blue background. There are six-pointed stars.
Geography
The longest rivers are the Murray and the Darling. The highest mountain range is the Great Dividing Range (The Australian Alps) and the highest mountain is Mt. Kosciusko. This mountain was discovered by a Polish scientist. The most famous lakes are Lake Eyre, Torrens and lake Gairdner. Australian desert are Victoria desert and Great Sandy desert. Climate is from warm to subtropical. Cape York Peninsula is covered with jungles. The southeast is covered with forests of eucalyptus and other trees. Australia has more than 2000 national parks and nature reserves.
Australia has a lot of special animals like kangaroo, koala, emu, kiwi, cockatoo, dingo. Typical plants of this country are eucalyptus, acacia and flower wattle.
History
The island was discovered by captain James Cook in the 18 century and Australia became a convict colonial. The first inhabitants were Aborigines. Now days Aborigines live in the north-west territory and they speak aborogional language.
Economy
The main industries are iron, steel, textiles, car industry, ship industry. Natural richest are coal, copper, iron, gold, zinc. Barley, vine, fruit and vegetables."
