"The Buckingham Palace is main London seat of Queen. This palace was built in 1702 for duke of Buckingham. Later, George III. bought palace and in 1825 architect John Nash extended for George IV. it.
Queen and duke from Edinburg are inhabiting about 12 rooms from 650 rooms. They inhabit only the forst floor of the northern wing. If the Queen is at the Palace, royal flag fly on the central flagstaff.
In 1993 the Buckingham Palace was opened for people, because royal family need money for repair the Windsor castle, which was destroyed by fire. Palace, you can visit only during turning point summer and aurumn. In this time, Queen isn´t at the Palace. People can visit for example: dining-room, musical room, white reception room and throne hall.
Queen has one of the best private colections of arts (has about 9000 works by from example Leonardo da Vinci, van Dyck).
Many people want to see changing of the guards in front of the Buckingham Palace. This changing take place every the second day in 11:30 in the time from September to March. New guards march from the Wellington barracks and meet with old guards on the courtyard in front of palace. Both guards change symbolic keys. Irish guards wear special hats, whitch are made from bear's skin.
In front of the Buckingham palace, there is situated memorial of the Queen Victoria.
The Whitehall is large street, which lead from the trafalgal Square to the Parliament Square. This street is made by government buildings. Name of this street or area come from name of palace of Jindřich VIII. – the Whitehall.
The Bangueting house was built in 1619. it was the first renaissance uilding in the Britain. Wonderful celling is the most precious because it is the work from Rubens.
The Downing street number 10 is also sitiated on the Whitehall. Downing street number 10 has been from 1735 office and residence of Prime ministers. People can not go to this house because of iron gate.
The Downing street number 11 is seat of steward of treasure.
The Houses of Parliament is situated on the left bank of the Thams. Official name is The Palace of Westminster. Building of the Houses of Parliamet was rebuilt in gothic style under King Edward and it was enlarged during rule of William the Conqueror. From the 12th century to time of Jindřich VIII. it was palace of Kings. Palace was destroyed by fire in 1834 and then consecutively it was built in contemporary style again.
Complex is divided into two parts, it is the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Visitors can go both to hear debats from the Visitor´s gallery. If we want to visi the Parliament, we need to book tour (viewing) three month beforehand.
Only Westminster hall preserves as the medieval part of the Palace of Westminster. At the Westminster hall, there was denounced to death for example sir Thomas More, Guy Fawkes and Charles I.
In front of the building, there is a statue of lord Oliver Cromwell.
The Big Ben is situated in front of the Houses of Parliament. It is a famopus clock-tower. This building is symbol of London. Author of this building is Charles Barry. Bell Weighs 13 ton and it is situated 97 metre hight tower with 334 stairs. Every hour it ring exact westminster time.
At the Westminster Abbey, the first monarch to be crowned here was William the Conqueror. His coronation took place on Cristmas Day 1066. the Coronation Chair, which has been used sine 1308, can be seen in the Confessor´s Chapel. In the 13th century Henry III. began rebuilding the old Abbey. The Abbey contains many other tombs and memorials to eminent men and women, but perhaps the most popular ones are those of writers, actors and famous musicians, poloticians and churchmen in Poets´ Corner. Geoffrey Chaucer was the first to be buried here. Winston Churchill is remembered with a marble slab placed near the tomb of an unknown soldier.
The Westminster Cathedral is the seat of the Cardinal Archibishop, and the leading Catholic Church in England. It is situated half a mile from Westminster Abbey, near Victoria Station. The Cathedral was designed by J.F.Bentley and it was built in Early Christian Byzantine style between 1895 and 1903. it is composed of red bricks with bands of grey Portland stone."
